This hike is about a 7 mile out-and-back hike in the Superstition Wilderness from the First Water Trailhead along the Second Water Trail (Trail #236) through Garden Valley and down to Boulder Creek and then back. We wanted to go check out the water in Boulder Creek after several days of heavy rain. See photos from this same hike I took in April of 2009.
Teddy Bear Cholla (Opuntia bigelovii) line the hillside below cliffs along the Second Water Trail.
A glimpse of snow covered Four Peaks above the slopes of Hackberry Mesa at the northeast end of Garden Valley.
Morning light on rock formations at the edge of Garden Valley.
A recent storm has left a rare coating of snow on Four Peaks and the surrounding hillsides.
A wider angle view of the snow on Four Peaks.
A typical Sonoran Desert Saguaro Cactus (Cereus giganteus) stands in contrast against the backdrop of snow covered Four Peaks.
The new green leaves of an Ocotillo (Fouquieria splendens) back lit by sun.
A light layer of mist rises off the waters of Boulder Creek.
After several days of heavy rains a desert river runs.
The waters off Boulder Creek wash over the boulders in Boulder Canyon.
The morning sun begins to enter the canyon and warm the rocks and grasses along Boulder Creek.

Saguaros, Prickly Pears, and Chollas stand before a wonderful cliff formation at the intersection of Second Water and Boulder Canyon Trails.
Another contrasting photo of snow covered Four Peaks rising above a desert landscape.
A veil of wispy clouds begin to envelop Four Peaks seen from the saddle between the slopes of Hackberry and Black Mesas.
A small pools forms in the rocks along side the Second Water Trail.
On the other side of the pool a small waterfall flows down to a larger pool.
Boulders line this branch of First Water Creek.
