This was a short New Year's Day hike from Canyon Lake along La Barge Creek in the Superstition Wilderness. Since Canyon Lake was drawn down about 50 feet for maintenance on the dams, we were able to start hiking right up the stream bed which is normally under several feet of water.
La Barge Creek just upstream from Canyon Lake. This area is normally underwater.
Assortment of boulders in La Barge Creek.
Further into the canyon you can still see the high water marks when Canyon Lake is full.

La Barge Creek running along the bedrock as the canyon opens up a bit.
A cool breeze ripples the water in a pool in La Barge Creek.
The smooth rounded boulders on the canyon floor contrast with the rugged volcanic cliffs.
A little "fall color" in January.
Strange volcanic formation.
Since the creek spanned out to the canyon walls here and we didn't feel like wading we made this our turn around point.
